On Friday, January 13, 2017, two members of the East Hartford Fire Department Peer Support Team traveled to New York City at the invitation of the FDNY Counseling Services Unit (CSU). In addition to the scheduled training program, East Hartford and FDNY made a joint presentation to the Prince George’s County, Maryland Fire Department on how to implement a Peer Team program. Peer Team Coordinator Todd Lomento and Peer Team member and Local President Dan Wasilewski shared with PG County our experience and lessons learned. We are grateful to Captain Frank Leto of the FDNY CSU for his help in developing our program into the success it has become. We appreciate the opportunity to give back a portion of that input to PGFD and stand ready to aid them in whatever they need to create a program for their members.
I appreciate the work that all the Peer Team members have done to create a workable behavioral health program that works for our fire department.
